Hi all,

I have a megger1553 mft.

I am just starting to do the monthly test records but with the checkbox I have it only does the continuity and insulation.

When it comes to te rcd and loop test which its recommended to do on a known socket at home I have just realised that the RCD on my CU is a Wylex RCD BS4293 30mA.

Of course when it comes to testing the megger I dont know what to go by in the OSG as I dont know what this kind of RCD in my CU would come under.

Please bear in mind that the property I am in is housing association so cant simply change things ove as if my own.

Does this mean I wont be able to do my monthly checks when it comes to rcd and loop?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Chris

i believe that is the ELCBVoltage operated breaker

should still trip...!!!

Hi DurhamSparky

Thanks for being my teacher lol.

Is there anywhere i can find the correct disconnection times or is the following results ok;

RCD test (on megger 1553)

1 x I = 9.0 ms
5 x I = 6.2 ms

ALSO when it comes to doing my monthly LOOP tests for my megger what settings do i put it on ie. in the loop dials there is the following:

no trip / pfc / hi / pfc

which setting for my monthly check do i put it on?

(I put it on no trip and it come up with 0.41ohms
Chris

as long as your RCD trips within 40milli seconds your fine...!!

no trip setting as your not wanting to trip the RCD / ELCB when getting ZS readings...

yeah 0.41 sounds good...!!

Thanks DurhamSparky,

Am sure I will be looking for more answers from you - hope you dont mind.

I am just trying to be extra cautious and get things right first time round instead of second time round.

Thanks.

Chris

BS4293 is the immediate RCD standard before BSEN61009 and is not an ELCB, perfectly acceptable for instrument checking, the only difference between the two is the max tripping time for for the 1 times test which is 200ms for the 4293 and 300ms for the 61009 so yes your test results are fine.

TREBOR

Can I ask where I can look that time up please in case I come across other types?

Chris

In GN3 Inspection and Testing page 56, a must have book for anybody testing and inspecting and the backbone book for 2391-10 study

I suspect it is in the OSG as well

a word of advice if you are to buy GNÂŁ from ebay or amazon is that the old version is still put up for sale, the up to date has a 3 with red background, the old 16th has a 3 with brown background
