I am a plumber and recently i sub contracted some work to an electrician, now the work was fine, however he has not provided certification for any of his work,

Job 1, Fit fan and heater to wc room, Both fused spurs.
job 2, Fit under floor heating and new extractor fan and lights moved.

I do not know anything about electical work and I am confused why he has not sent certification. I have asked him several times and he has simply fobbed me off with saying he is going to do it, but never does.

I am wondering is there a body that he must be registered with and how do i check if he is registered or not?

Also what are my options if he does not provide certification? Can I report him?
I know this is a bit drastic but he clearly said he was part P registered and this makes me look like an idiot if he does not provide certfication.

Thanks in advance

did he mention a scheme or any signs on his invoice of scheme names?
the possible main ones are Elecsa, Niceic, Napit.

You can check the scheme providers web sites to see which one he is with. I believe he has 28 days to notify the lba, you can check with them if he is registered as a part p electrician.

part p notiy or not u should still get a cert, just ask him "havent had any paper work through for that job", he's got 25 days then his scheme has 7 to notify LABC just see what he says, can check on the schemes website if hes registered

Thanks for your help guys, unfortuanealy i have got no paperwork from him, i.e. invoices, address i.e.

I have checked niceic and he isnt on there.

Just emailed him to see if he replies, will give him a couple days to respond, the first job was over a month ago, so if he hasn't notified it by now he is too late.

I have checked niceic and he isnt on there.

I am part p registered and I wouldn't be on that site ( they make me shudder  )
Dont restrict yourself to just that one club ( Niceic) have a look at the others as well

You should have certification irrelevant of the part p nonesence

try here , and click on search for a competent person. Most 'registered' electricians are on there. You can elect not to go on the NIC/NAPIT web sites but as far as i know you have no choice with this one!

Good luck, as it sounds like he has no intention of doing them. Did you see him doing any type of tests with a meter?

yeah I have paid him and there is no sign of him on LABC website, seems to be a ghost.

no website or web presence.

really starting to get annoyed with him, not answering the phone now and i am getting really worried,

I thought there might be one site that does the certification, like gas safe, but it seems to be different for electricians.

Can I ask for money back for the fact that he did not test or certify, i did not see him test anything.

I suppose its my own fault for being so trusting and not watching his every move but surely he shouldn't be promising the certificates and saying he is part P if he is not?

I am in aylesbury but i cant remember where he is, and he has never said which scheme he was with, He just claimed to be part P registered

Best advice would be to put the location postcode into the website that Short Circuit has posted and find a local electrician to check out what he's done. Unfortunately that'll be at your expense.

The only other option would be trading standards. However, as you have no proof that he's actually done any work for you/on your behalf (no paper trail), that would be difficult to prove.

Where are you based maybe somebody could come and look at the work and tell you where to go from there. Somebody may be able to put there name to it. I don't encourage this but it can be done via a PIR

Just to update, I spoke to him today ( after 4 phone calls) and he said he was part of NIC? he was very vague about this but he definetly said he was NIC registered.

He assured me that he will send the paper work off today and that he will email me his details. I have not received an email as yet but will await one by tommorow,

Now, is it a case of sending it off or is it a simple form to fill in, who does this get sent to? the customer or back to the electrician?

Now you know he is with NICEIC, you can confirm this with them either by their website or a phone call??
Good Luck!
