The electrician will notify his scheme (in this case niceic) they will notify labc and also send a confirmation of labc notification - compliance, to your customer. The electrician should have supplied your customer or/and you with any electrical test certificates as required. hope this helps

I am a plumber and recently i sub contracted some work to an electrician, now the work was fine, however he has not provided certification for any of his work,

Job 1, Fit fan and heater to wc room, Both fused spurs.
job 2, Fit under floor heating and new extractor fan and lights moved.

I do not know anything about electical work and I am confused why he has not sent certification. I have asked him several times and he has simply fobbed me off with saying he is going to do it, but never does.

I am wondering is there a body that he must be registered with and how do i check if he is registered or not?

Also what are my options if he does not provide certification? Can I report him?
I know this is a bit drastic but he clearly said he was part P registered and this makes me look like an idiot if he does not provide certfication.

Thanks in advance

How do you know the work was fine if you know nothing about electrical work?

Too late now but why did you subcontract work to someone who you know so little about?

Jase, bad news that mate. Its not your fault, so dont blame yourself. I dont think you should be standing over another tradesman, i know i hate that as you have to be polite and chat so it slows you down. I have never been asked for proof of my Part P registration or other quals and think it is right to be trusted by the people you are working for.
One other avenue for the LABC is to contact your local office and ask if he has notified them, but that may open a can of worms and if he hasnt they may make you pay for them to check the work, or get someone else to check and certify it. You could report him to them for trading incorrectly by not notifying them of the work, but again this might come back to costing you more of your hard earned cash

Not sure how it works, but what about trading standards? He is obviously claiming to be qulaified more than he is. Also, where did you get his details? IE friend, local paper? If it is the latter i would be contacting them and getting his advert stopped or at the very least report him for it. If the advert contained a logo from NICEIC, NAPIT etc, then he is breaching their copyright.

It's got nothing to do with 'standing over another tradesman' it's about using competent subcontractors!

How would you feel if it was your elderly mother's house and it turns out the work is sub-standard, who's fault will it be then?

It's about taking responsibility, if you sub-contracted a new boiler install would you check your sub-contracted installer with GasSafe? I'd hope so and this is no different, it's duty of care to the client.

I agree with everything put here so far, I should of done more checks before i asked him to do the work, i'm too trusting i think,

I should of researched it,

I would never stand over him and I find that working the same day as other trades can actually slow you down.

The work looked fine and was tidy, this is what i mean by the work was ok.

I do not know if it was to standard although it looked tidy, it went around the room in trunking and all worked.

what i meant was i do not know anything about electrical certification, part p, 17th edition, notification to the building control, i.e.

I got his details from one of those websites, that give work out to tradesmen, I never did my research as i was going to use him for another job in my house, although this job never went ahead and I never did the research as required.

Well lesson learned, next time I will use a different electrician and ensure he has all relevant paper work and i receive the certificates before payment is made.

I hope you get it sorted, I wasn't having a go, you live and learn!

Thanks everyone, I have spoken to him again today and he said that he is posting all certificates and everything to me, he reassured me that he was definetly "cosha",

I will await the paperwork middle of next week, I will update as to what happens, Really feel better now that i know enough to challenge him to ensure he gets it done, thank you all

Thank you, I will await his letter next week and get back to you, thank you for the offer.

Hi all, thank you for your help so far,
I received certificate for work done, however, it is not his company or his name that has signed it, the only sign of him is that he is under the "client" section.

Now i am pretty sure that he has got somebody else to sign it off, is this legal?

what can i do to report this as he said to me that he was niceic registered when he blatently is not,
will this involve me forking out money to have niceic check it and is it worth reporting him?

still no address for him, no registration number and can i report the other person for signing off work that he has not tested?

sorry to keep asking guys, but he has issued a "minor electrical installation works certificate" on the back it says this should only be issued for work which was an extension to the current installation, i.e. additional socket outlet, not a new circuit.

The majority of the work is moving a light, i.e.

but he added under floor heating, from the consumer unit. is this a new circuit?
sorry, i dont know if i am being over suspicuos or he is messing me around.
thank you all for your help

if its a new circuit from the Consumer Unit, then that circuit should be on an Electrical Installation Certificate, not a Minor Works! I think you are right in that he is messing you around!
