IMO a PIR should only be carried out by a person that has an advanced knowledge of electrical systems. You need to have a few years experience of EIC's & MWC's under your belt before undertaking a PIR.

how would you suggest i could do a damage report on the affected circuits?? bearing in mind these houses are old and a few tests have failed alreadyWell expereienced or not.work in these times is hard to come by
The man is in a job that others consider he is capable of doing
He seems to be asking questions because he is aware of correct procedures, uneasy with procedures and is new to the company
Whoever issued you with Mwc has to be told that they are not the correct forms for a report on an installation
The amount of testing and inspection does not matter, as long as the degree of that test/inspection is clearly stated on the pir form and agreed with the client ,who in your case is your employer, get that right and it will cover a lot of your concerns
If they insist on using a minor works certificate, then state on the certificate that the work done was removal and reconnection of accessories, not a test and inspection
It would not be what a minor works certificate is for,but will keep your employer happy, perhaps, whilst covering your actions
I cant understand how or where on a minor works certificate a failure of an installation could be recorded in order for an insurance company to accept or reject
It sems to me that they just want extent of damage reporting for internal job assessments, not a proper pir
They then fail to see that the extent of damge report is a pir with those stated limitations
These guys are absolutely right. A MWC is unacceptable for a periodic inspection. You need a Schedule of Inspections and a Schedule of Test Results to comply with BS7671. This information is available in GN3.
