Hi guys new to this forum so I thought id start with a bit of back ground. My names craig im 26 and live in Essex, I've been a sparks for 8 years now, working for a local company that subs out to a large BMS firm called AES controls, we deal with heating systems, plant rooms, air conditioning in everything from schools to the MOD to a new 6 star hotel in London. So as you can see I'm based on building sites and have no experience with domestic premises or wiring (and college was a while back :) ) I have recently been approached by a friend who needs a full house rewire under insurance due to a fire, I've priced the job with a little outside help, but my main question is where do I start ?I mean I know getting the routes sorted and chasing out Walls is kinda step 1, but what would you do power/lighting or upstairs/downstairs I know there's not a set order and more than likely down to preference, just wondered if you guys had any tipsThanx in advance :)

I assume as there is fire damage that the house it is unoccupied. First off have you power of any sort and if not are you going to provide any temporary. If you are that's the first job, if you aren't then I always like to get the jobs I hated most out the way first, so for me chasing out all the runs was where I started. Complete those and then your wiring. Again for me it would be working down, loft first to get it out of the way, first floor and then ground.
Once all the wiring was in and boards replaced I would IR the cables quickly to make sure none were damaged. 2nd fix all the accessories, then do the majority of your testing. Final job for me was my favourite and that is the CU and bonding.

Yeah it's unoccupied, and the fire was isolated to the bathroom by firebrigade, so there is still power downstairs. I was gonna start from the top down, to be honest as this is my first I'm quite excited, so even the chasing is appealing at the mo :)

Are you doing a like for like or will you be making changes/additions to what they had before? And without wishing to teach you to suck eggs how are you going to go about the notification?
