Discuss help with hot tub in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

I would like to point out (as a newly qualified test and inspection chap :) ) that you really should not lay any cable until you have discussed the project with a qualified sparks.
It is notifiable work and as a responsible person, I would urge you to do it properly.
Knowing the cable size is only part of the design, reference methods and earthing are equally important.
Cheers
B

i am qualified, i had a conversation with myself and agreed to lay 10mm to conform with 3% vd for lighting.

thanks

Sorry but from your post (#4) you say you will be getting someone else to wire it. Under the regulations it is notifiable and you require part p domestic etc to do such work.
Just trying to be helpful :)

I'm afraid this smacks of another thread of someone asking how to design an electrical installation, on the pretext that a competent electrician will eventually carrying out the work.
OP you say you were a qualified electrician, then you should be able to calculate the size of the cable etc yourself. I can understand that you may wish to do some of the manual work, to save yourself some money, but you should employ a competent electrician and ask him/her what size cable etc.
The installation of a outdoor supply for a hot tub etc, requires a good working knowledge of part 7 BS7671. If done incorrectly, the installation could be extremely hazardous.
I do not mean to be derogatory, but you should reconsider your plan, IMO.

I have got to agree here that this is becoming a step by step guide on how to install an hot tub. While the forum is for helping fellow electricians it isn't here to design installations for people, Op if you're an Electrician you should know what calculations to use to safely design the install if however you feel out of your depth then employ the services of a competent Electrician. Thread closed.
