just trying to builded up my confidence, am going to do an insulation resistance test on my ring and the lighting cicuit, but on the ring their are build-in appliances eg. fridge, wash machine, hob and electric heater that cant pluged out. and the light their are two dimmer and 14 spotlight, how s the best way to do this test please,

m8 i could be shot down for this so please wait for a UK based member to come along . join L -N and put the clip on then put other clip on Earth set your tester to 250v and away you go Here in spain its called method number2 but knowing UK it bound to be 123345667hgbXcg sec 2 part 17 exp 22 on a friday method.

have to agree with paella, LOL. you don't want to be putting 500V across L&N with appliances connected. but, don't these appliances have double pole isolation? as for the lights, remove all lamps, bridge the dimmers, and you can test normally.

when you say built in do you mean on a fused spur? You can isolate the aplliaces at the fuse spur and then IR the rest of the intallation and just note that on the cert as another option

I believe we also call it method 2.
The 250V test voltage would be used to test between all conductors as per method 1, as the equipment would routinely be subjected to such voltage.
If you link L & Ndue to voltage sensitive equipment, you would use 500V to test.

This is why you cant do a PIR tests in an Hr, you have to take your time. as said remove and refix takes up most of your time, but it has to be done, never rush or you might just get it wrong.

they plug in behind all the cupboard in the socket, no spurs. the only that have the isolater above the worktop is the oven

are their any other way other than to remove the 14 lamp

but only for testing phase conductors to E. if he wants to test P-N, then he's got to remove them.

so still did not get a definate answer, on the ring unplug what i can and then at the ccu link L & N and test to E at 250v dc
