Help with kitchen plinth lights

A

Andy Ellis

I want to run about 20m of SMD LED strip lights under my kitchen plinths ect..

They are run from a 12v (350w 29A output) transformer/driver, which will sit under the plinths and plug into 'spare' socket outlet I have there. Previously run plinth heater.

My question is this though

I would like to switch lights on and off from a spare gang on existing 2G light switch, yet still power them from the socket on ring main.

How might I do this?

Wanted to avoid anything like that really though, I want to control the strip lights from the same switch point as other lighting circuits.

I've run 2 lengths of 1.5 t+e to the switch (neither connected i might add (house is building site)), one run going to plinths, one could go into ceiling rose and pick up loop. id then have switchable 230v at the plinths but only on the lighting circuit. its how i use this to switch the transformer on and off. Im presuming im looking at some kind of relay, but unsure which

maybe use DP 230v/12v relay, and use relay to switch the output side of the transformer??

you are over thinking this job, you do not need a relay switch, use one twin and earth as feed so you have a live and neutral to the switch, then the other as a switch live and neutral, the switch cable will just get wired in the transformer, simple

If the transformers are the plug type just fix a socket on the switched supply. Obviously mark the socket to be used for lighting only but as its hidden under the plinth this should be fine.

I have just done a kitchen with led strip under the plinth. It looks great

Mmmmmm very pretty.I have long been seeking a way of highlighting the bread-crumbs,peas and cat fluff! It's only a matter of time before these LED's are being fitted in the rim of a loo...
