B

bob-a-job

im going self employed shortly and im filling out my buisness plan when i come to the services and pricing section and suddenly im stumped

ive got pricing set out for general extra sockets and extra lights etc even ccu changes but i have absolutley no idea what the going rate is for

1)periodics (ÂŁ150-180)
2)cookers (ÂŁ250-300)
3)showers (just the wiring ill leave the plmubing to a plumber thanks) (ÂŁ250-300)

ive got some old info on pricing from when i was training as a rough guide(next to the 3 in question) but i know they are higher then present 400-500 for a ccu change(old info) while average price atm is 300-380 from what ive managed to find out, and they just look high anyway, any hints or pointers someone can throw at me would be appreaciated, im in the dudley area so i know its a bit cheaper around here then the birmigham standard

I think you've answered your own question. i.e. you may be a bit expensive, so only time will tell.

However, before you join the race to the bottom price, remember there are people where price isn't the main deciding factor!

periodics( domestic only ) ÂŁ150 - 250
cookers ÂŁ150 -200
showers ÂŁ150 - 200

so your not far out compared to me..

depends on th job itself, the layout , where you can run you cables , could be ten minutes could be 3 hours.loads to consider, from now on im going to take good look before i commmit...

thanks guys, yeah im not joining the lowest price race, really low people wonder why, really high people wonder why so im sticking middle of the road with pricing. let my work speak for me so no slacking allowed

im just tryign to get a rough idea so if its really easy i can drop it a bit if its a total mare i can up it, but i needed a rough figure to start with

Pricing is a black art and very dependent on the situation for the installation and additional remedial works required.
I have priced jobs where i think it will be straight forward only to come across horrible problems.

Your pricing seems a little bit on the high side but remember not to devalue the industry by going too low.

have a look at Electrician Prices - Estimates of the cost of electrical jobs as this gives you an idea of what people are expecting to pay and may allow you to set a price range for your jobs for the business plan, just remember that the business plan goes out the window (sorry, is restructured according to current conditions) as soon as the business starts.
Location is a major factor.

When you say "cookers (ÂŁ250-300)" what do you mean, I installed a cooked from an existing cooker point the other night, new cable from the 1G 45A switch. I did it for nothing as he was a mate I used 2 meters of 6mm cable. The switch I bought and charged for. Or do you mean from CU to appliance? Sorry to appear so stupid but I hope I am not missing out here as I get asked quite often to do little jobs like this, by the way I am a level 3 2330/2357 student who is very competent....Cheers

I think he is refering to a new install circuit, but the bit about if its too cheap they wonder why i don't think exists anymore, no one wants to pay for anything and most jobs go to the bloke with the oldest van and dont care if its wired with wet string as long as it works. Sometimes when you explain the extra works you have to do to do a simple job you can almost see the customers eyes glaze over and open the front door for you to leave.

Well I am a 39 year old student who is of the school of 'it's done right or not by me'.
I have been asked to re-wire houses, replace CU's and a list of other jobs but won't do it. I have my 17th Edition in December and after March 2012 after my AM2, I plan to undertake a few other courses, I am clued up and very competent but would think of doing something I am not supposed to do (legally). But thanks for the clarification 'needapsparks'.
I can't get a job unless I have the quals, but don't want to start a 'Confessions Of' self employed situation, unless I am legit.

Really you need to see what other sparks in your area are charging per hour and then base your prices around that, although try to give a fixed price for the job in hand , look at a job and see how long it will take, concentrate on what your customers want and deliver that firstalong with quality work , once you have them using you as "Their Electrician" they will pass you on to their friends & neighbours and you can move your hourly rate up a quid or two then.
Sorry ifi'm teaching you to suck eggs here , Best of Luck.

hahah richard i think out the window may be closer to the truth :p that link has a few local jobs so most appreciated

yeah ebow72 is was a full install from ccu to end point, cant exactly charge ÂŁ200 for two sets of connects at the end of a very normal 3foot length of T+E, well not if you want to earn money and stay off watchdog

yeah i was hoping there might be a few locals on here Lee, guess i better hit the phone ask nice and hope they dont tell me to kindly take a walk

thanks for the help guys ^^

I was speaking to an estate agent in East London yesterday and he mentioned that his electrician charges only ÂŁ150 for a 10 way board change and apparently he is a registered electrician. Can anyone here beat it? I definitely can't!:speechless:

o.0

say ÂŁ70 for the ccu, thats ÂŁ80 for install, testing and cert ..... thats if everything is perfect, lot of fiddly work for not a lot of cash, this estate agent must be supplying him a near constant stream of work to get a discount like that
