4. What are the regulatory requirements for using approved access equipment including following supplier’s instructions?
8. How do you safely use, take care of and store hazardous substances and what are the safe handling and disposal methods for optical fibres and other materials?
my answer
Any materials which are hazardous to health will come under COSHH regulations and controlled waste regulations and as a result suitable systems would need to be in place for the use , storage of hazardous substances and disposal methods for optical fibres and other materials
appropriate risk assesment will need to be completed to identify the risks who might be harmed and how etc as well as adequeate training for people who are to handle , use or store hazardous materials
1 Eliminate the use of a harmful product or substance and use a safer one.
2 Use a safer form of the product, eg paste rather than powder.
3 Change the process to emit less of the substance.
4 Enclose the process so that the product does not escape.
5 Extract emissions of the substance near the source.
6 Have as few workers in harm’s way as possible.
7 Provide personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, coveralls and a
respirator. PPE must fit the wearer
when using optical fibres
keep all food and beverages out fo the working area to avoid accidental ingestion
always wear suitable safety glasses to protect from shards or splinters
keep track of all fibre and cable scraps and dispose of them properly
never look directly into the ends of fibre optic cables especialy with a microscope unless certain its safe to do so
do not touch eyes while working with fibre optic systems until washed hands thouroughly
only work in wel ventillated areas when finished dispose of all scraps properly in a suitable contianer labelled correctly for safe disposal
thoroughly clean work area when work completed

8. What are the safety implications and economic consequences of supplying inaccurate or incomplete information to the customer?
my answer
Someone could be seriously injured if I gave inaccurate or incomplete information. This could occur through inaccurate test results, ending in a fault possibly being present and not identified, or equipment being used inappropriately or incorrectly because of bad functional and operational information i had provided
