PMQ's today David Cameron announces complete review of Green Tax Energy Levies with a view to reducing them substantially......

Deja vu anyone......

He's playing politics. It'll be popular with the voters but do utterly sod all to help keep fuel bills down.

Cheap energy bills are an unattainable myth. All parties know it.

what they all seems to have missed is that the vast majority of this rise is entirely down to OSbourne introducing a carbon tax on electricity generation in April, which has sod all to do with the environment, it's just a stealth tax... this resulted in a massive switch from gas to coal last winter around 20% as the coal plants on limited hours all ran full pelt until the tax started, then at least 3 big old, but very cheap, coal plants closed in April this year, meaning that this winter there is going to be a massive swing back from coal to gas, and at the same time the generators are paying 50% more for gas than they did 3 years ago.

This is why the prices are going up so fast, almost nothing at all to do with FIT.

Beats me why nobody is saying this, I can only assume that there isn't a single journalist or politician who actually has a vague clue what is actually going on in the energy market.

My favourite part is their going to get Ofgem to do an annual check to see if the market can be more competitive. Aren't Ofgem supposed to be doing that every sodding day? Isn't that a regulators job?

An absolute farce with all MP's showing their ignorance. Nice to see D-Cam get a very public spanking in PMQ's though.

isupplyenergy.co.uk still the cheapest.. (customer support sucks a bot tho, they should follow the giffgaff model)

I've been run off my feet today and just heard bits on the radio. First thought was well there goes the RHI and the renewable industry continues to crumble. Just watched the news and the penny dropped - FIT cut anyone?

I haven't even had a bill for my MCS due next month - do they know something I don't??

I intend to do some detailed analysis of the figures, but I checked this out a couple of weeks back, and we really need to be getting a proper breakdown of the figures out there to stop the government and energy companies from their current strategy of putting the blame on green energy tariffs, which everyone then assumes means support for renewables.

I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of this rise is down to the carbon tax I mentioned, which has absolutely nothing to do with funding for renewables.

The other 2 big costs that are being bundled in with green and social policies are the costs of the rebate scheme for those in fuel poverty, which has nothing to do with renewable energy, and the costs of the ECO funding, which as far as I can see is just a get rich quick scam for boiler installers and I'd have no problem with being scrapped in its current form, plus all the costs associated with adminstering a green deal framework that's so far delivered just 50 actual green deal financed schemes.

The costs of the FIT are absolutely miniscule in relation to those costs, and really is delivering brilliant value for money with a clear mechanism for ongoing cost reductions already in place to mean that Solar PV will have to be delivering electricity at significantly lower cost than the price just agreed for new nuclear by the time that nuclear comes on stream... that's if there is any FIT support needed by that stage at all.

A PR offensive is required here, but back by some rock solid figures and graphs.... which I'll get onto when I get a minute.

It seems we'll hear more in the Autumn Statement on 4th December so that leaves just under 6 weeks to lobby. Not sure when December became Autumn - always used to be Winter when I was at school. Must have come from one of those new free academies .....

What nobody seems to realise that the "cheap" fuel is behind us and the only likely path of fuel costs is up.....

Listened to Cleggy whilst in the car today (280 miles...) seems like he wants to remove it from the bills and pay it out of taxation, to ensure they don't kill the FiT scheme RHI is only secured until 2016 anyway and is tax payers money not energy bills.
RHI is a single lump (not split Commercial / Domestic) and is 90% underspent. I can see them bundling them all together under the same budget.

and where is the counter argument and industry perspective from STA and other industry bodies that are supposed to represent us?! maybe they're getting an early start on the Christmas shopping!

Very strong defense of FIT and Green Levys by Danny Alexander on the Andre Marr Show this morning.

He says Lib Dems will fight all the way to leave them untouched. You can watch it again on iplayer
