[ElectriciansForums.net] Hi, can anyone tell me what the technical name for this item is? And the right way to fix wires into it?

For network cables you get plastic tools to push the wires in, they never last but are cheap enough to replace after doing a few dozen connectors. Also you can get more expensive metal tools if you plan on doing a lot.

Here it is hard to say if it is the same sort of thing as scale is not obvious or the purpose of the connector.

It looks like an insulation displacement PCB connector that plugs onto a pin header. E.g. to connect the various components of an appliance such as a washing machine to the control PCB. The double IDC fork and general proportions suggest a power application. It also appears to have selective keying so that it will only engage on the correct header.

The correct tool will be one made for that specific brand and size of connector, but it might be possible to make a satisfactory connection using two screwdrivers to press the wire in either side of each fork. The wire must be of the correct size for that connector.

As above, please state the application.

Cheers everyone. That's really helpful. It is from a washing machine (Miele 5964), and takes the wiring providing power supply to a sensor. Sorry, should have said all of that at the start. I was just struggling to get the wires into place but I should now be able to do that with the information provided. Thanks very much.
