Hello all,

This is my first thread as joining the group to hopefully learn and possibly assist. I have been a industral engineer for many moons and started as a sprky with a 4 year apprenticeship (yes a long time ago!) - back in those days testing seemed easier and less complex than today but that may be age again! Anyway, I decided to upgrade my old testers for a new Ideal Suretest and it seems ideal for the likes of me, but whilst playing at home on the ZE (P-E) i was getting high readings which also tripped the 63amp 30ma RCCB on a crabtree board, the L-N reading was good but when i carried a ramp test the RCD was tripping early. would this impact on the ZE regarding i was getting or could this be a seperate problem?

always keen to hear advice!

Ben

first, were you testing Ze at the main sitch with the installation OFF and the earthing dissed? or were you doing Zs . if the latter, were you using no-trip? also RCDs will usually trip around 23mA. this is bordering on the safe side so as to ensure tripping at 30mA.

Good thinking - the other side of that is my garage and also where the gas comes in so probably quite a tidy solution if it comes to it!

If the shared neutral is lost ,won`t you be getting 400v across both cottages? 2 phase US style but double the Voltage.
