Eveneing Gents I was just wondering if a conduit bender can be used to bend conduit without a conduit stop as a guy i know will let me have an old one but he says it has no stop will a bolt or something in its place work?

The hook stop is pretty fundemental in bending pipe.

You can buy spares online, if you can get a bender for free & the hook stop costs you £30 odd, you still have a bargain.

I got a CEF brand one for 250 brand new, its a copy of the hilmor and works well, only thing with both of them is the pipe vice are not up to the job and conduit slips while threading , i bought a heavy duty vice and threw the cheap crap it had on it.

I bought one of eBay with the exact piece missing however it came with a hooked shape piece of metal which I have no idea where it goes on the bender. This is a heavy duty old school bender. Does anyone have any idea what the hook is for? How do you upload a picture from mobile?

Bright orange???
yep .... thats the one when i complained about the vice they put me in touch with the manufacturers who said it a copied design and they have realised they copied an existing flaw as well, i got 50 quid credited and bought an heavy duty one elsewhere for 70quid

its probably a locking hook when you close it up and carry it.

if you know someone with a decent drill and a grinder...some bottles n all....then just get a bit of square bare and warm it up...bend it into a hook....drill hole for the bolt you can do this at one end of a length of bar so you have something to hold onto whilst bending and drilling....then just burn of the end that you`v worked....give it a taste of the grinder to finish ....jobs a good un......

Just followed the thread and looked at some pricing, so thanks

I was pleased to see The Record bender, same as mine costing £650+
Nice to know for when I need to start e-baying my gear
