Hive single channel receiver wiring

Hi all,

Looking to wire up a hive receiver but never done one on a job before (just finished 4 year apprentachip flat/house bashing mainly) so just want to check I'm going to be doing it right before going ahead.

So i was going to run a 3 core T&E from the boiler to the receiver.

So at boiler end:
1) remove link from 1&2 at boiler.
2) brown into 2
3) Grey tagged blue to N
4) black tagged brown into 1

Receiver end:
1) brown to L
2) link L to common
3) Grey tagged blue to N
4) black tagged brown into N/O

Am I correct in thinking this would work or is something wrong!

Hi Jamie, yes I think what you are suggesting should work.

don't mess It up could be a expensive boiler part mother board .

Personally I would run a 5 core flex instead. Then its simply power and 2 switch wires

Also probe the switch, most of the time theres already 230v there so no need to cross link the common.

Just looked at the image of the wiring diagram which I'm guessing is inside the boiler cavity.... did anyone else pickup the fact it appears to have a fuse in both the line and neutral? Or am I misreading it?

And as an aside, whatever cable you use to connect to the boiler, it should be heat resistant, and I agree with @Madocks . I'd use a five core HR flex.

I remember wiring these boilers about ten years ago and it had a fuse in neutral then.

I've just done this at my house and can confirm that your connections are correct.

As I've installed my receiver next to the boiler I just ran 3c HR flex and sleeved the g/y core with brown for the switch live. The receiver does not require an earth and my flex is all visible (in mini trunking inside a cupboard) along its length.

The missus loves the Hive especially as it talks to Alexa.
