Down at the village show yesterday and the question was asked

"your an electrician...(god how I hate hearing that), could you convert a washing machine motor to turn slow enough (5rpm?) to roast a pig".

Now my initial answer was anything's possible but the more i think about it the less i think it is.

Any idea's gents.

Gear it down? Unless you can change the supply frequency.:D

A washing machine motor would never roast a pig if it got that hot it would burn out:D:D:rolleyes:

Getting back to the question I'm not sure a washing machine motor would be the ideal motor for this application as it would need to be substantially geared down to get to 5 rpm

th best motors to use to turn a spit for a hog roast are from truck windscren motors. There already set up for slow rotations and have a high torque.stick a bike spoke on the spit couiple of 12 volt battery and away you go its the way its done is Bosnia,

just attach a dewalt variable speed 1800w 110v drill to the spindle, it will go for days before burn out, i think about 350 quid. Washing machines are cheaper i know, but heavier.and no fabric condtioner needed

This reminds me of the great train robbery in the 60's. The mastermind was never caught, most are now set in folk law ronnie biggs etc etc ....

Anyhow, crucially they needed a bent electrician, whom could tamper with signal wires and stop the train directly at the bridge for the getaway. This was a big stumbling block for their plans, Anyhow one of the gang introduced a 'bent sparky'...he said yep, no probs I can stop the train there...

Ok he's in, 25k is his share all agreed.

The plan to rob the train goes into action......the sparky takes his role, he smashes the green signal light, and places red plastic cling film stuff over the light...other gang members were shocked! ****in ell...25k for that, they thought he was going to tamper with electrics, anyhow the train stopped, the rest is history.
Perfectly true btw

well for 25k im in :D and i will even re-wire them properly if it make em feel as though they have their moneys worth. mind with inflation it should be worth about ÂŁ100 000 now. saying that they would get mr polski for a ton :D

I've had a few dodgy customers...well not dodgy but dont know what the want, they seem to think i'm a test base
I don't like them fittings (even though they chose them) can you swap to these ..err ok...then the new fitting will not fit, the hole is not big enough, no probs ...then a joist is in the way, oh dear...Bill time they dont like, they think i just work to keep them happy, I don't like working for wealthy clients, they are nearly always a pain in the ****

i was asked at the local gun club what i do for a living i just made up some random job that no one wanted. or i would have spent every weekend being asked to sort various bit`s out up there and after just a walk through look at the electrics it would have turned out to have been a right project. and expected gratis no doubt.

I took a lovely photo of a lamb being spit-roasted in Bosnia. Seemed to take about half an hour to carve though.
