Discuss Hollycroft software in the Business Related area at ElectriciansForums.net

The hollycroft software purports to assist in RA. But it did not work so I uninstalled it straight away. I think the OM software is design but on a grander scale than most sole traders like me would really need. I use cable calc myself a cheap and very clever and useful piece of software scaled more to my size of operation. I did download OM and tried the free version. The graphics did not scale to screen size. The black screen with white was also difficult to "read" It did not look or feel like design software say if I was asked to start from scratch doing a shop or offices. It is not an intuitive software. imho. I am sure OM could design RA software but it seems that is a long way from what they are trying to present.
The real fact underpinning big projects is that no one would design the layout they would source it out to a firm specialising in it. This is due to the legal onerousness of design, you really need to do that and only that not just be an installer or tester.

Hello,

ElectricalOM Software is an electrical design software based on BS7671 that performs calculations automatically so that designers of electrical installations can be freed from having to do them by hand. The calculations and checks that are made are comprehensive and the software is updated to satisfy the needs of the industry standards.

The software is developed to assist design electrical installations of all sizes: from a simple single cable calculation to a large industrial installation. To study a single cable sizing, for example, the user will specify the source characteristics and add a distribution circuit with a predefined load. The software is capable to get into more details and perform protective devices discrimination studies, provides information about compatibility of up and downstream devices, and helps the user to easily select new ones. Furthermore, it checks for harmonic current effects and provides suggestions for appropriate cable sizes.

Some remarks about your post:

"The graphics did not scale to screen size".
The software is a CAD-Based design software meaning that the user need to use the mouse to zoom in/out the drawing or use the pan action to move the view. Also the user can perform the zoom actions like zoom all and zoom window from the Schematic Toolbar. Please see this link for more details.

"The black screen with white was also difficult to "read" It did not look or feel like design software...".
We have chosen by default the black background which, like most classic design software (e.g. AutoCAD) is more relaxed to the user’s eyes. If this does not suit the user’s needs he/she can easily change the colors from the Palette options. Please see this link for more details.

"It is not an intuitive software".
Thank you for this comment. We appreciate all the comments positive or negative. Our aim is to make the software as user friendly and intuitive as possible so it would be highly appreciated, if you could tell us specifically what you did not like about it. We are always considering the user feedback and are continually implementing valuable suggestions from users in successive releases.

Please don't hesitate to contact us for any inquiry you may have.

Thank you,
