i did an hnc project for the business management module on home automation. you basically had to come up with a professional business plan and that was the subject i chose. if you pm me your email adress(when you can) ill send you it. all the subject and research is real and i think there are some websites in it you may find interesting, however the majority of it you wont:)

CEDIA - the association for custom installed home automation - offers a range of courses. A lot of manufacturers and dealers also offer training on specific systems but cover the general principles as well, and some of this is free. You can see a list of courses on the HiddenWires - home automation and home entertainment training page. (HiddenWires doesn't run any training)

If you're looking for an apprenticeship or employment, then you can find lists of home automation installation companies at CEDIA.co.uk or the HiddenWires web site. These companies are often looking for qualified electricians.

I'm in a similar situation (BEng student), having been tasked with attempting to build a business plan on a home automation company. This is something I've never had to do before, and although I've found a lot of useful information on business plans for other industries, i cannot find anything on this. Is there any chance you could give me some pointers? I've attempted contacting existing companies for information but they never respond (presumably they assume i am competition?!)

Many thanks in advance

Al
