I am buying myself a hot tub which requires a 6mm/32 amp service. I have a garage unit which has a spare to fit this extra supply to (no problem). i have measured the diameter of the cores on the SWA cable running from the weatherproof junction box outside of my house to the garage and the flat TW&E cable running from the circuit board to the same weatherproof junction box, this measures 2.5mm!

As the tub requires 6mm, i must presume that i need to update the 2.5mm SWA and Flat TW&E to 6mm. if so though the SWA would be easy to replace, how about the cable from the circuit board to the junction box? has anyone known to sucessfully disconnect both ends and pull a new cable through with the new one attached??

To be fair the cable coming from the circuit board would be doing an 's' shape?? not too sure whether to give this a tug hoping this will pull through or the other option is to put a new cable in a route all the way around my house - not ideal.

If anything please confirm that i am required to upgrade to 6mm, any suggestions please - thank you.

Lets not get carried away with the whole NICEIC thing gents. As we are all well aware all schemes are money makers. When i asked my local NICEIC inspector some years ago HOW a particular man ( will not use the word electrician, tradesmen or even donkey ) had managed to get registration his answer was " If we dont another scheme will " . For us time sereved up to date electricains who WILL only do the job the correct way it is demoralising when we are competing against guys that tie there horse up outside. I frequently tell customers to use NICEIC or ECA recognised memebers and as it was a Hot Tub that can not be certified under Part P, this was my recommendation. As Comment 7 said , give the location and I am sure a good qualified electrician can go and assess and help this guy out and have SAFE outcome.

I'm Birchington.

Ahhh a Quex man ehhhhhh. My dentist is in Birchington.

Think we might have to meet up for a pint, been years since I have been in the Acorn, maybe because I'm not a Shepherds Neame man, though I do like a pint of "Nun's Delight"

Ramsgate man, though Pegwell now.

Acorn now shut for good I am afraid but the new look POWELL ARMS to open very soon. Like Pegwell as the Bell Vue has to be one of the nicest most tradtional pubs around with great views.

ok back to thread my new friends. so i was going to replace the current 2.5 core TW&E which currently has a 16amp breaker for 6mm core TW&E and a 32 amp breaker. This circuit provides power to a garage unit which has lights, socket outlets and soon to be hot tub. i will replace the swa from the garage unit to the house also from 2.5mm to 6mm cores. the garage unit will therefore have 3 breakers, 32,16 & 6. the amount of cable used from the circuit board to the garage unit is 15 meters. according to the hot tub specs it requires 6mm cores and 32 amp breaker. There are 2 rcd's in the main switch board in the house. I qualified part p, did 17th and inspection and test though didn't pursue a career in electrics - life took me another way. so i need someone to verify this for me, someone currently qualified who does this everyday. i can wire this then get someone in to inspect and test for me. Thank you fello sparks

Clarification "pzool" the cable that leaves the CCU is 6mm 3 core SWA and this terminates into external weatherproof JB and then 2.5 T&E to garage CCU and the total length from house CCU to garage CCU is 15mts and proposed Hot Tub located on end of garage or further up the garden ?
