Hi I am trying to test a 5W metal oxide resistor on a pcb board and the person have told me it should read 1R or 1R2.

How do I measure that on a meter?

Thanks

Meter set to low ohms, measure across, or if using a multimeter, set to ohms (something like 20 or 40 ohms, unless autoranging) or lowest ohms range and again measure across

Hi midiman, Temporarily unsolder one end of the resistor so that you measurement will be uneffected by parallel paths/semiconductor junctions, switch your meter to 200 Ohms range and ensure your test leads are connected to the correct meter terminals, connect your test leads to the resistor and read off the value. Remember when interpreting the test result that all resistors have a tolerance, 5W resistors commonly +-10% of the nominal value.

I’m sorry midiman, 1R or 1R2 you will struggle to differentiate between as most resistors have a ± 5% tolerance. You’ll need something a bit better than your average multi meter.

I,m fecked off.

I cant read the value on my meter and this dam product is as good as junk.

I,m going to have to sell it as parts now.

I don't think it will work with only one stake unless some meters have different operating parameters. It doesn't necessarily have to be a stake...
