CASH. Sweet, sweet cash. Then bank transfer. Cheque only if it's a reasonable sum of money and/or old client, I'll do some whinging about it though.

Paying someone just so I can receive payment doesn't sit well with me.

I charge the customer the extra, payment by card is for they convenience not mine

Bank transfer, cash or cheque.
Almost all of my clients pay by bank transfer.
Cash and cheque are extremely rare.

If my clients wanted to pay by card I'd get a card reader and find a way to charge the client the fee. Either by adding the same fee for card transactions or adding it to the job as a whole.
It's not legal to charge any fees for card payments payment now. If you add something to a job to cover card payments then you need to charge that same amount regardless of payment method.

Same here, bacs, cash, cheque, PayPal and sum up, I think it's cheap and very handy, you can add on virtual terminal which allows you to accept card payments over the phone, or card not present payments as they refer to it as. Good for call outs etc.
Plus if you take card payment its not really costing you anything to lose 1.69 per ÂŁ100 when you consider going to lodge cash or cheque can take 2 hours of your day by time you find a space to park and stand in queues in the bank and get ba k to where you need to be again.
Do you have the CNP "Virtual Terminal"?

Was it hard to get and did you need many transactions for it?

I've the SumUp 3G reader and have used it a number of times (including for large amounts).

with cheques now, you don't need to go to bank and pay them in, upto ÂŁ500 you can with most banking apps scan the cheque in as an image on your phone and within 24 hours its in your account. So I am much happier taking cheques for small amounts now. have a card reader too. but bacs generally is the preferred option for most of my customers unless they seem a bit dodgy in which case cash is king!

Yes, I applied for it on the website, they email you asking for your average transaction amount, how much you anticipate billing per month with CNP and a few other bits, took a few days before they emailed me back but was pretty simple to get. Had only used it once for a ÂŁ250 payment before I got CNP virtual terminal added on.

Bit late to the party but like most of the other guys have said, Bank Transfer is the most ideal, I also have iZettle as a back up but have never actually had to use it.

When people insist on paying cash as some don't like the use of online banking (mainly elderly customers), assuming its not a large amount, I'll usually chuck it in a wee box and deposit it once I've got a larger amount there to save having to go to the bank every time I get paid.

I take BACS, card payment by link, card payment via machine (I have a chip and pin machine in the van).
I get almost no cash now as BACS is better
Invoiced a customer for a job at ÂŁ400 today and he emailed back to say he had paid 5 minutes later (he had )

Hi there! My name is Pierre, I am new to this forum. I created an account as I am a starting my freelance career as electrician and I am struggling to get paid in time as my clients say bank transfer is a hurdle. They ask me if I could accept cash or take the card, but I don't want to pay any extra fees or carry cash with me. Do you know any other free payment solution? I heard of apps called Banked or Cash on the App Store. Have you tried them before? Can I trust them, or do you know any other easy solutions? Thanks a lot :)
Gleefully. hiding a smile.
