how do you wire in a spotlight?

I want to start installing spotlights but I find the connectivity difficult as they don't come with ceiling roses. The only way I could think of is taking the switch wire to a junction box and then wiring the corresponding spotlights off it, can it be done this way? or what is the correct procedure?

Lathe and plaster then? That was around long before people worried about downlights in ceilings. What do you reckon?

Plywood in this case, but lath and plaster, tentess (however the hell you spell it) board, matchboard, UPVC, MDF, steel.
Probably plenty more if we all put our heads together

Every time I have asked a question without thinking or engaging my brain properly I have been called far worse than a numpty, and have always reacted by laughing along with them when i've realised how daft i've been.

I see no issue with his attitude personally, ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer. ask a sensible question and get a sensible answer.

Okay I'm closing this thread whilst the going is good and it's still good humoured.

I think the problem here is that you're looking for a generic way to do a task but there isn't one. Every job is different, the circuit is different, the layout is different, the building fabric is different, the location and it's associated hazards could be different and the light fittings themselves could also be different and this is not to mention customer requirements and many other factors. There's no substitute for familiarity with the regs, having the right test equipment and the experience to be able to approach each job with all of its variables and come up with the best method of installation.
