I was doing installs for a big firm.

I have my own MCS and did the installs normally in one day with a roofer and one other.

They paid me ÂŁ950 for a small installation and ÂŁ1,050 for a larger install.

The have proposed to cut these to ÂŁ750 and ÂŁ850.

We know the halcyon days of earning big bucks have gone but I would be interested in knowing what other installers think.

When we subcontract for other firms we wont work for less than ÂŁ600 a day +materials +travel ( 2 roofers 1 sparkie), a job usually takes us 1.5days and we have to charge 2 days due to travel and we cant start another job on 1/2 days time (in winter anyhow). One of our subcontractors has suggested ÂŁ350 per install and do 2 in a day! no chance!! we wouldn't risk the quality of workmanship and if they pushed us for 2 in a day then we would want more not less!!

Depends on the cost of your roofer - but if i was pulling ÂŁ850 per day as a subby i dont think i would grumble in todays climate.

Its al down to you - if you happy getting what your getting then carry on, if your not speak up and haggle if you can - you've got to be happy deep down otherwise resentment comes in and the job quality go's down.

thats good money and more than we pay , if you can get more elsewhere take it, if its going to leave you grumpy and you can afford it sit at home and watch jeremy kyle

but it takes half a day for the final paperwork are you getting paid for that or does that have to come out of your ÂŁ850? What about tools, fuel, insurance etc are you expected to cover all of that too? What about surveys - do you have to do those too? My overheads are ÂŁ500/job before I start paying for anything else.

how do you maintain the audit trail for your MCS?
In repsonse to the above it's 850 per install, not per day and a big install takes more than a day (or should in IMHO)at this time of year.
I would say the original pricing was ok just for subbing, but too low if you are expected to do the MCS as well. Why isn't the company giving you the work doing the MCS. It's on your ticket, but how do you know they are following the correct procedures required for YOUR MCS.
Even on the new rates they are making good margins paying you the money, when as all they are doing is giving you the work and not spending any of their own time on the MCS administration.
There are companies out there that think they can take the pee because of the current situation, and unfortunately people prepared to let them.
If I have to work for penuts I'll do it myself, but I'll be damned if I'll let some bunch of crooks get rich off my back by insulting my skills and qualifications

I thought the new MCS guildleines applicable from christmas dont allow this sort of situation, the customer must now have the contract with the MCS company.

Thats right way contract with mcs company im mcs and also niceic domestic installer a company rang me offered me 250 for all electrical work all they did was mount panels they offered me 250 for rest to sign off electrics and mcs id rather watch jeremy kyle im sorry but that was taking the p big time and this was a aerial company shocking noone zhould fit or be allowed to sell pv unless mcs certified

personally I think it should be a requisute for MCS that your company is also part P registered. There's too many companies involved in this without the technical electrical expertise to be managing their installations. They employ subbies when they have no idea if the job is actually being done properly.
