Fuse board change, 10 circuits, new shower feed and bonding for both gas an water. Bonding is probably about 20metres, shower feed about 25 metres away. How much would you say roguhly? ÂŁ600?

im all for high high prices as you reckon. i want to work and do a good job and get payed an average of 15ph to cover my costs and just to get nearly 300 a week home and some money put a side for other expenses.

as i see it when i install a new ciruit , that ciruit is lasting as long as circuits in my mothers house and havent been checked in 30 years. i sell myself on this point.

700 notes for a board change is crazy money but if thats what you can get then fair play to you. Its certainly not value for money though. I'd charge ÂŁ350 for board and testing, which seems to be the going rate and it'd take me about 4-5 hours normally, which means I earn over ÂŁ50 an hour, which is fine by me.

ok, maybe i was generalising a lot, but the subject of this post got me back up a bit!

i have refused (up to now!) to compromise my standards to buy work, and it's usually the testing that makes the difference with a unit change. done properly, i think it's an hour a circuit, including visual and cert?

i'd love to fit 2 units a day, like i used to, and make ÂŁ400 for it, but requirements have changed now, and we shouldn't be giving it away?

i often tell customers that they would be able to get it cheaper, but that the job we do for them would be done as well as it can be, and that takes time, which needs paying for. don't win every one, and wouldn't want to, but customers ( and us!) ALWAYS happy!

if ÂŁ15 per hour suits you mate, then good on ya!

i don't know anyone (worth employing), who would work for less. but they also want continuity of work, holidays, no hassle, poss vehicle, and they can walk and drop you in it at any time!

i have an idea, that's probably been suggested before? lets all charge ÂŁ30 per hour minimum, and get what we're worth for the responsibility we take with this lectrickery!

i don't see how you can possibly fit a new unit and all inspection test and cert in that time? but if you can, fair play

every installation is different is shape , form and size. i.e which breaker controls what. i was working alongside a hotel owner today and he was a electrical contractor with 47 men working to him one time. his hotel gets inspected regular (every year by big firm) and he asked them to label up everything last time and they didnt do it. and this hotel needs it as there is maybe 20 different boards scattereed around. so good job for good money.

Aye ÂŁ25-ÂŁ30 an hour min is reasonable, any less is a waste of time unless you're desperate.
An hour a circuit on testing? Christ I'd do all 10 in less than that. I dont treat it like an EICR though, just a quick IR, ring cont, and earth and I'm outta there. If the installation didn't burn their house down on a rewireable board, I cant see its gonna on an RCD one. If I asked for ÂŁ700 I'd be worried that on seeing another quote for half the amount, they'd think me an absolute c**t.

Nice one mate, money for old rope.. you got to love jobs like that

well as you know trev im only breaking into the electrical trade and starting do work on my own. i was asked yesterday at 4pm to go to hotel and move cables as concrete bison slab was getting cut out above void where cables were sitting at 10am today. i said no probs il be there at before 8am. but when i got there no one knew what cable was for what and nothing easy to trace. so was thinking to myself well no way hes handing me ÂŁ50-ÂŁ60 quid. i turned round and said you are going to have to hold off till i find out what these cables do and if they can be cut and jointed and will be on day rate. and it felt good. cause this was what needed to be said. and i said it and brought another guy in to help me as 2 heads are better than 1. trev.
Not sure I understand that one mate, maybe it's the beer:)
