how much should I be on?

I know it's not all about money and I'm happy to have a job, just feel like the work I do and can do has changed dramatically since I started work but my money hasn't gone up still ?

I've done my level 2 and level 3 I finished my level 3 2013 June and have just been doin my Nvq which I'm half way threw just one job left to do and my am2 which is booked in.

What are other opinions on this?

Here is some thing you may find helpful, rule of thumb kind of thing but these are the JIB rates on pdf. Page 38 is very interesting.

The pay is 55 pound a day but a day can vary as you probably know some times I'll finsh at 3 then other times maybe not till 6, I'd say I'm pretty competent he can give me a job and I can go and do it and I won't be looking for advice every 5 minutes

That's cr4p. You should be on a minimum of £10/hour ( + mileage if you use your own vehicle.)

I would say you are best off talking with your employer about it mate. The last company i worked for i asked for pay rises and was told yes but was set challenges in order to gain them.

After the first year though you should be on NMW for your age group. so for 25+ about £6.40ish an hour.

Obviously once you are complete withe NVQ & AM2 you should be on more.

Never underestimate how tight some people will be if they can get away with it.

We're based in London aswell ?

Is is really that bad? He's still tryna class me as an apprentice but he had a subby into help out on a job and all he had was 2330 lvl 2 and 3 and 17th and he was getting a full sparks wage can understand he was 6 years older and has more experience but he has the same quals as me?

£55 per day is not even a mates rate, with those quals I would be having a word with the gaffer but tread carefully.

Agreed, the gaffer may give him the push if he feels threatened, trouble with trainees they usually get laid off when the apprenticeship ends, so it would be wise to tread carefully IMO.

This what worries me, living in London people crying out for apprenticeships I'm easily replace ableI mentioned my pay to my old man and his words where don't bite the hand that feeds you but it seems abit low for what your doing .

so best thing to do is have a word with him ? Just feeling abit under paided, he's given me rewires that I've done start to finsh ordering gear and everything else

Communication is the key here IMO. Just explain to him your thoughts and see what the response is. He cant fault you for trying.

Just be careful and make sure you finish and get fully qualified as finding another job before that may be a challenge to say the least.

Yeah I know it took me two years to get this job and been working for him for bout 2 and half years…might just rise the subject as a conversation rather say can I have a pay rise…what sort of money roughly should I be on for a day rate?

Think you deserve 300 a week after tax as you are basically semi-skilled at the moment, JMO

Only you know your situation Elliot, maybe approach him with a nice/none demanding attitude and ask if you should be getting paid more due to the exams you have passed and the skill sets you now have? Seen as your responsibilities have increased so should your pay. As we have said, tread carefully mate.

Here is an example, I've employed a member from this forum, Manda. I've called her and asked for her permission to post this btw.

I needed a hand on a job and she needed the work, I paid her £60 per day (7 hours max) with just her level 2 + 17th ed quals. A year later I needed a hand again but by this time she had almost completed her level 3 plus other quals. I paid her £100 per day due to her not needing supervision for the works she was doing on the same sites, small new school build and an office rewire. Her money goes up in ratio to her quals, experience and what she can do without supervision. This is how it should be and in the not so distant future she will be on more than £100 per day due to the jobs I'm lining up atm and she can do them without me being on site with her. Saying that, I'm a nice guy that does not take the P out of people and pays them what they are worth unlike your boss by the sounds of it.

Pretty much what I was going to say Paul (obviously - the bit about Manda)
Now I know nothing about your situation Elliott but I think I'd be playing the "I'm really struggling on the wage I'm on at present" card
I've got rent/mortgage/bills/car/phone/a baby on the way/ a sick dog/ yada yada yada so I'm wondering, and I hate to put you on the spot like this, if there's any way you can take a look at my rate of pay. I do a good job and I don't need close supervision ............

You know how to do it so he's not threatened mate.
