Ive got a small job to do tomorrow.. install 2 or 3 twin sockets in a utility room and im not sure how much to charge for it. she wants it on its own circuit so im going to put it on a 20A Radial. The route is from the D/B board, upstairs, under the floorboards and then drop down in the utility room in yt2 and then across to the sockets. I also need to get sockets and trunking which i need to involve in the price along with 2.5mm t&e. How much would you charge for this?

She's also wants me to pull in some aerial cables from the loft into 2 bedrooms and the lounge via a booster. which may need power in the loft too but all the cables are been run outside and then drilled through into the rooms.. how much would you charge for this too?? im asking a seperate estimate for this as its weather dependant with working outside etc...

Cheers

Matt

Whatever cost you come up with remember its Bank Holiday Monday so charge accordingly unless its a good customer with links for further jobs.

Well its a family member im doing it for so i've got to put family discounts in once i get a few estimates.. it can be done anytime this week to be fair i just put tomorrow as a day down

yeah i was thinking that myself to be fair.. dragging it out a little plus a 50 metre drum of 2.5mm is 27quid from screwfix so i'd charge them ÂŁ25 and would use it all through both jobs. 3sockets and pattrisses = ÂŁ10 and ÂŁ2 lenghths of YT2 which i'd charge ÂŁ5 for

family !!!!!!steer clear what ever you charge will be to much !!!

nah she said she'll pay me properly as the spark who re-wired her house was **** and she doesnt want to use him again and doesnt know anyone else and wants someone she can trust. I wont rip her off, i'll just tell her she'll end up paying more if she goes to a company and if she wants too then its her own choice...

Price it normally, give the quote to her and ask her what she wants to pay.

Tell her what you have done, that this is your normal price nd you feel uncomfortable deciding the discount level.

If she pays you full price she can ask you to come back and do other jobs whenever she likes. If you give her a huge discount she know that she will have to wait until you are quiet to fit any further jobs in.

To me this seems fair and transparent, I find if you do people "hidden" favours on price, they will have no idea that you have given them a discount at all.

I think you have to show them the going rate then go from there. Anything else leads to trouble in my experience.

Or just don't charge at all. (in case of close family)

BTW 50M drum 2.5 is ÂŁ17.50 less 15% at B7Q at the mo

Get cable from a local wholesalers your get a better deal also is it possible to chase the runs ? looks alot neater esp if family and other people seeing it will think its a nice neat job as well as sink back box's its worth it mate ! i only use trunking as a last resort and even then ind/comm but not domestic this will only add say ÂŁ50 to the quote and look 50 times better id charge say ÂŁ150 plus parts for family.

them B&Q prices seem pretty keen to me kung, dont forget they include the vat too ;)

Thanks all for your replys.. i saw her yesterday and she doesnt want the utility room doing any more as she's changed her mind on its purposes so she just wants the aerials doing.. She wants 3 points in 3 upstairs bedrooms with a new aerial.

Its a terristed(sp) house with no chimney on the roof so, my only option is in the loft fixed to a support joist. I do have abit of knowledge with installing and setting up aerials but i've never had to buy one so im a little confused as to what i require.. esp when looking on screwfix when u buy ur own brackets etc... Im thinking of getting a high gain aerial (screwfix 75779-10) with the loft fixing kit (34394-10). a drum of coax which i have in the van an excuse to purchase a Signal finder (58244-10) to find the best position and amp/splitter to get 3 points from 1 aerial - im not sure of whats best for this so was hoping someone on here could find one to show me what i need??

Family? don't bother if they are like mine. Put in 3 x 17th edition consumer units in 3 houses and main bonding in 2 of them as there was none all on rewirable fuses one had 1.5 main earth and I made the mistake of saying pay what you think is a good fair price ÂŁ200 he gave me, never again
I was supposed to be gratefull as he was giving me experience as I was just getting my own bussiness going.

its all ok trust me, thanks for all your concern but its ok.

I just want to know if everything i've listed would be adequate for a loft aerial install and what the best amp/splitter is to get 3 signals from 1 aerial in the screwfix cat

Cheers

Matt
