i have ask several of the certification companies if they could tell me how qualified i am. i have passed 2351 level 1 2330 levels 2 + 3 and i have also done the 17th edition update from 16th edition to 17th. When i phoned the NICEIC they told me that i was fully qualified and that i could register with them even though i havent done an NVQ due to lack of employment. i just wanted to know how qualified i am because i am interested in going self employed. i know that i still need to sit my 2391 which i will do.

but if you do your apprenticeship in a factory setting and do an electrical engineering apprenticeship, then that makes you a maintenance electrician as opposed to a actual electrician?

Its so confusing :/

Yes you can, try reading the electrical courses section.

In fact I think there is a link on JIB site.

im only just getting into the trade. Is installation electrician more of a prestigious role than maintenance electrician?

Or are they really apples & oranges even though they both have the word "electrician" in their title?

i think they are completely different because i took 1 route and my friend took the other and we both came out with different qualifications

I take umbrage at that. A “house basher” is just that as far as an industrial electrician is concerned. No knowledge of control systems or drawings, from what I’ve read on here even a central heating system confuses the hell out of them.

No disrespect to most of you, as I’ve got to know you that respect has grown. But for someone to say I’m not an “actual electrician” sticks in my craw!

from what i can gather you are a industrial electrician installing the power supply in factorys but pirate works on the machines not the factory itself
