Hi,

I am looking to set up to go alone, what I need to know is, what do I need to have/do to be able to sign off my own work/certs so that it is all fully compliant with part p + building controll and the regs?

I am a fully qualified Electrician to the 17th Edition, I haven't got 2391, but fully conversant with Inspection + Testing.

Do I need to join with NICEIC and job done and I can do it all or do I need to be 2391 certified, or do I have to do any other things?

Any help/advice would be great,

Cheers.

You dont have to join any competent person scheme, however any notifiable domestic job you do it is a legal requirement that you notify your local authority building control and pay the fees before work commences unless it is an emergency inwhich case you have to notify asap. They will charge you a fortune to the point that the jobs not worth doing.

Any other work you do you can issue your own certificates.

Thanks guys,

acat, thanks for the info, I see what you are saying it looks an expensive way of doing it. So basically if I didn't want someone from my local building control to do it (which I don't) the only other way is for me to register with one of the competent persons scheme such as NICEIC, and then I can certify all of my work including any notifiable work? Can I join up to one of these schemes without the 2391?

Cheers, LEO.
