How do attach this ceiling light? The wires are all identical, clear, no colours, numbers or codes. Please see pic. Thanks

I’m borrowing one tmw but no, I’m not sure how to use it. Thanks
you set it on ohms. each wire will show a reading close to zero when you have both ends of the same wire connected to the meter.

So do I connect the wire and the bulb fitting to the meter? How do I know which is N, L or earth? Do they have different Ohm readings (sorry I’m a bit clueless!) thanks :)

you should get continuity ( almost zero ohms ) between L and centre contact, N and outer thread, E and metal casing. in that order. 1 probe on end of wire. other on appropriate part. if you haven'tgot amultimeter, you can knock something up witha PP3 battery and a car tail lamp.

As you have bought this second hand, make sure you definitely have good continuity between the earth wire and any metal parts (should be reading under 1ohm on the multimeter). Ideally you would carry out an earth bond test using a different piece of test equipment.

Have you got suitable terminals to join this to your lighting circuit?

I will buy a multimeter/continuity tester (are they the same). To test the earth, do I attach one end to wire and other end to ground (fridge, radiator)?
What do you mean by terminals?
Thanks so much :)

It would certainly heat up faster at 240V! I have a large 240-120V transformer to power my American kitchen appliances here.
