Hi, Im installing a telephone line in a house and all I have is a black telephone cable coming through the bedroom window which was chopped off when they moved in.

Im assuming I need a telephone junction box to extend the cable to the required position.

Does anyone know how to connect this to my 2 pair cable?

The black cable has 3 reds, 1 black, 1 green, 1 orange and 1 white cable.

Thanks

Only thing with taking front plate of is this does not always eliminate everything in the house sometimes stuff might be spurred of from other points. If it was and they tried to charge me for the visit I would argue the case that it was not able to be tested by the customer. If you can eliminate this yourself it would save arguing with your service provider as they tend not to listen to reason

whereabouts? on cordless? on master socket? on extns?
break down the line and check to see if its on your wiring or on bt incoming line . I did have a noise/hum fault on internal wiring once that was caused by an electric blanket! Also we used to fit sockets with noise filters in areas near tv masts ,ie: crystal palace. Are you near one??.

Swap A and B legs round. Polarity makes no difference - about 40% of them are wrong I reckon. Failing that, and I assume that this is a BT Master Socket, if you still have noise, dial 17070 and select quiet line tests - if a hum crackle or indeed any noise is audible then report it to faults. Make sure that the A and B terminals are tight, and that you test at the test socket on the master front plate (behind the subscriber front plate). Sounds daft but try another phone too.
