Hey guys,

How do people manage to get work for Commercial & Industrial properties..

Ive noticed most have already got electricians working for them, guessing its a hard part of the industry to break into but how have people found the most successful way into this, i want my business to do alot of shop fitting and new builds etc!

Cheers Guys

its who you know, and word of mouth. Somebody i know is a pat tester, and hasntr been doing it too long, but hes starting to get asked about fixed wire testing more often, which is where i should come in!
It seems to be an insurance requirement for the people that ive done work for or quoted for.

In which case you've not chosen the best time to start your business, with new house builds at a near all time low. The High Street isn't fairing any better either!

The hard realities of the situation the country is in.

The industry mostly use htie own maintenance department, hardly any contracors. You'd be better of targeting commercial sectors such as office blocks and supermarkets.

I dont agree with that...contractors are largely used from big manufacturing sites like walkers and Heinz which have there own maintenance department but have lots of contractors in every day to international logistics companies like DHL who use contractors for there sites all over the UK of different sizes, some with there own maintenance department some without...

A lot of the work is back heeled by maintenance departments not wanting to do the work...

My work 97% of the time is industrial and commercial...it is hard to get into and as has been said it's who you know not what you know...although some of our clients have been directed to us from the nic eic...see there not all bad lol...

100% agree with the above,I've been involved in industrial control near enough all my working life and it's very rare to see a maintenance dept doing domestic/installations testing etc,it's almost always passed on to an outside firm.
Ways in?
Brown envelope full of cash?kids in the same footy team, perhaps your the coach?their kids will now get picked every week!!!
Etc etc,it can be a closed market but you never know, got to get your name out there though.
