How to modernise an old brass table lamp ?

I know you have a class 1 lampholder but you see plenty of class 2 table or standard lamps for sale where the cable passes through metal parts. If a good insulated cord restraint is used at the base and conductors are not exposed until they are at the lampholder I see no reason to earth it. If you are worried you could use an additional layer of sleeving, how would it ever become live if the cable is securely restrained.

Thanks All again for your thoughts.
I've ordered a selection of cord grips and will go with earthing the BC lamp fitting and top half of the lamp to which it's attached. I'll leave the base floating. As Westie pointed out, all wiring passing through the base will be double insulated and well supported. Update pictures in a few days.

Here is a pic of the lamps. I fashioned a new grommet for the cable entry in the base and after trying 3 types of cord grips I've settled on the simple friction cord grip on the inside. Thanks again for your thoughts and suggestions :)

The bottom part is at all times double insulated from the conductors passing through it (including the cpc). The top half of the lamp is earthed securely at the brass lamp holder. If the top half insulation from the bottom half was to fail then fortuitously the whole lamp would be earthed.
