how to replace an immersion heater?

if you find its a nightmare to get it moving, I found applying a little heat using a gas torch works wonders. Only for a few seconds and then try again. I've heard short sharp blows with a hammer on the spanner helps but it never has with me. Keeping the tank full to "crack" the seal is a good tip otherwise as already stated you could rip the tank and that's just not good :(

never had a problem with sharp taps with hammer. worst i could do would be to wet a few things. blowlamps , now that's different. i could set the house on fire!
