There seem to be so many differnces of opinion on exactly how the PSU should be tested (if at all). Could any experienced PAT testers please comment on specificaly how the unit should be tested?

Some previous posts say it should be tested as a Class II device at 250V but if it has no Class II symbol (and has an earth pin) then it must surely be treated as Class I? If so, how can the Earth bond continuity test be performed where there are no exposed conductive parts?

You should really check the interlock ,make sure that as soon as the door is staring to open that the microwave stops cooking .

i believe although not mandatory good practice is to fit a sticker in view of the users stating that the interlock works and that the rad level is below the rec level.I had these custom done for me at a sensible price by a local firm in waterproof vinyl much better than the usual paper ones the customer can wipe the oven over and still see the labels details.

Test a Laptop PSU

You will have tested the cable which could be class 1 or class 2 dependant on what type of IEC it is. Then you have to test the PSU - it is fully insulated so you don't have access to any earth points so it's fine not to do an earth test, so you test it as a class 2 item putting your earth probe against the plastic casing to check for any insulation leakage.

For the microwave you do the class 1 tests and then a radiation leakage test using a microwave leakage tester
