Can some one quickly tell me how I can wire a extra low voltage extractor fan, I know it needs a fan, fan isolator, and a transformer but how will the wiring go to each of these. Someone's already done the wiring but its not marked and not making sense so I need to learn how it's wired normally. And if I can remember right there are 2 twin and earths at the light there's 2 twin and earths at where I think the isolator is and there's a twin and earth at the transformer and 1 at the fan.

normaly a 3 core from light (L/N/SL) into a triple pole isolator feed side, L/N/SL from load side into 230v side of tranny, L/N/SL from load side of tranny to fan.

some fans only require 2 core/ some dont require a tranny - but the wiring is the same regardless of how many cores/cables you use, from light to isolator to transformer to fan.

not all l2 apprentices will have had the opportunity to wire a selv fan, but at your level you should be able to work it out yourself by now its not a difficult task.

So I found out that the perm live is needed because when you turn your bathroom light off there is no power in the s live and the timer fans still carry on running that is when there using the perm live, can't believe no one could answer this for me on here.

Pal, loads of people knew the answer but you sir are a DIY sucker on a professional forum and hence why we didn't answer.

Next time try another forum

I've no problem helping out the newbies BUT you have to post a question and your "answer" for people to comment on. Then you will get the best from the forum.

There are too many DIY wxnkers pxssxng about on this forum.

You clearly are posting such desperate questions, like Murdoch says, plenty on here will give you the help you need, but what we don't like doing is tell DIY freaks how to do our job, show us your college enrolment number ect and
possibly we could help

Not sure why you haven't asked your college tutor this question so they can run through it step by step so you can learn..................... Oh wait you'd have to be enrolled at a college doing electrical installation first! Silly me

Oh yea I am going to be phoning my college tutors and workmates while they are on there Christmas holidays, what is wrong with you! And if I was a DIYer I would not take the hassle of making a account on a electricians forum! And also have a look at my previous questions there are for my assignments!

look if you run a 3 core to the transformer and then to the fan you can make it work whatever make of fan it is, some have 2 cores to the fan, some 3 cores, but you will need 3 cores to the tranny, a feed, switch wire and neutral, wire it in 6243Y, anything else?

i fear this forum is starting down the persecution road.

would it not make more sense to have some form of vetting on signup to give some form of proof that you are infact qualified or training before being allowed membership?

some of the posts do indeed seem a tad harsh if the op is infact a trainee (maybe he is or maybe he isnt) and going by this and various other threads i would feel a little intimated to make posts myself if i was still a trainee.

understandably we get annoyed/ frustrated at the Electrical Trainee/diy posts but you cant always diferentiate between the struggling trainee or the diyer - the forum used to be a lot friendlier when i first joined 7 years ago and should return to that - proving some level of competence is the only way of achieving that.
