We went to look at a job this morning where were being asked to refit some solar panels after a roof had been re-slated. The roofer said that he'd refitted the brackets exactly in the same places as before and using the same method.

First of all, the brackets were 'screwed' directly through the slate and then flashed over. Not good. What was worse was that the brackets moved about all over the place, clearly with only one fixing. Had a look in the roof space and was faced with this:

Yep, that's a solitary nail knocked straight through the slate, felt and then into thin air - it doesn't even catch the lathe.

Have you ever seen anything so ridiculous?

Any yes, that was the mounting method used on the majority of the brackets from what I can make out.
