Why HV is bad and should be treat with the respect it deserves...!!!

this happened today at work! routine switching (autiomatic via a plc) on the generator test!

the HV unit that has "broke" looks like it tried to close onto a un-synced bus bar from the generator side... possibly a unit defet or possibly a PLC sequence problem.... the investigation starts tomorrow!!!

:) luckily no body was hurt in this instance!

11kv........ took out all protection at the site sub!!! :)

Ouch! lol, looking at that reminds me of the time my boss was showing me how the incomer to our switchroom is turned back on in the case that it trips, in his attempt to show me he forgot that upon inserting an interlock handle he activated a limitswitch in the mechanism... power shut off to the whole site! hahahahaha during production hours as well! he wasnt very popular

Turning off hv by mistake is funny, it's just not funny when it goes bang turning it back on.... Unlike lv you can't just go oh ****!!! and remake it fast as... Lol

Never had a problem on any of our MV panels (feverishly touching wood..lol!!) only ever seen the aftermath of faults on somebody else's panels. And i wouldn't have liked to have been in close proximity when they did go Bang!! lol!!

Durham, please explain what i'm looking at in Photo 2?? What is that un-shrunk heat shrink doing there and what is protruding through it?? Do you not use termination filler and boots on your terminated cables within your panels?? The centre connection termination bolt is too long, and even more reason for filler and boots to have been used.... One more question, ...what is the material that these single core MV cables are entry connected too and pass through??

I admire you men that work with such a lethal beast.... This boy is staying with domestic because at least if I make a mistake a may live to tell the tale.

Fascinating stuff but way beyond a point I would ever feel comfortable with.

Great post Durham, thanks for sharing :thumbsup
