Tidy Max

Good evening Gentleman.

I have had a small job in the pipeline for a while for a customer who is having stainless steel bollard lighting down either side of their drive way.

Nipped up to check on the jobs progress to find the client couldn't find the correct size light fitting so he has modified some. This has left me with a baked bean can sized space to terminate 2 armoureds...... any ideas would be very much appreciated.

I was originally going to terminate into a metal conduit Y split but unfortunately this will no longer fit!

Any possibility of running your supply to an above-ground adaptable box and then splitting the supply to an individual cable for each light?

OK, probably much more cable, but at least you're only terminating one cable in each light.

How many cores has the armoured got? is it terminated into a metal enclosure or is the armouring connected to earth in the house?

I'd be reluctant to bury a conduit box in the ground even if it's filled with gel but how about using a torpedo resin joints in the ground fully waterproof, then just bring a tail from the joint to the post light

What if I put it in a bin bag? Haha, I wouldn't just bury it in dirt and crap I would put something a little less degradable around it.

I would use a buried Y box, filled with gloop and maintenance free connectors :)

I forgot to mention, the cables come up through concrete! So burying anything isn't an option!

Not really! Its a brand new turfed lawn either side of cast concrete steps!

Thanks for all the replies so far!

It's 3 core 1.5, and yes the armouring is connected in house. I was fearing what you are about to suggest is my only option! I suppose they do it in street lights, i have just never made an armoured off with a gland ( and never planned on doing!)

Can't see the problem then, the Armoured is connected to earth, it is mechanically protected in the house, it is mechanically protected outside as it is cemented in and won't move, so yes you know what I'm saying in this instance don't you LOL

Surely you dont mean that the way it sounds?

It's hard using a junior hacksaw whilst on horse back!

No i didn't haha i meant without a gland! I have seen those armoured clamps before inside lamp posts etc which was what i was referring to :)

Gland the armoured off and 6mm nut and bolt the banjos? Not great practice but a option. As it's concrete not much else on except other fittings!

That's probably what it's going to come to to be honest!

That's exactly what i have done for my house in Cyprus garden lighting bollards. The only thing i will point out here though, is that the lighting bollards need to be suitably IP rated if you're not terminating into a box/enclosure....
