HELLO,

I've been thinking of becoming an electrician for a while
i'm at the momment a team leader at a retail company, i've done a bit of research about the course and that
and im thinking to do the 2356 level 2&3 course, i saved abit of money and im thinking to start in feb with this
private college, the course is 13 weeks and after that i gotta do NVG, WHat do you guys think?
IS THE COURSE IM ABOUT TO DO RIGHT?
Thank you

yeah thats the course im about to do 2330, but what i was thinking is, if i finish that course and the new course gets introduce, what would happen to me, and would a get a job? or do i have to do the new course all over again :S

You need to ease yourself into this I have been at it for 36 years and I always say every day is a school day and trust me the way we change regulations more than we change our minds its not easy also watch a guy put a light up in your house looks great but this is not even 1% of what we do fair do,s if you want to become a domestic spark then fine. Also its not easy Darwin has a good point with regards to evolution some will make it but a tad more wont. So you need to be committed and focused and ask questions and have the humility to thank people without thinking it is a sign of weakness but if you do stick in then yep you make out of it what you want for me I could not stand still it was just my nature I served my time in industrial commercial (never seen house electrics for 3 years) was a chargehand at 22 moved into fire / intruder alarms for 2 years the HVAC/BMS controls Facilities maintenance / management and now run a small business doing house repairs so is this a backword step nope its just me doing my own thing without the stress of the new competitive workplace no shifts either.

Ok thank you sir, but you on whole diffrent subject, no disrespect, im asking about the level 2&3 2330 course is it ok to do and what happens to me when the 2357 comes out proper. im i gona be able to work or do i have to do the 2357
thank u sir

its up to you Abs but just remember that to try to cram all that in ....in just 13 weeks...just isn`t going to work mate....look as oldtimer has said....you never stop learning but you will need the foundations to build on....and you wont get that in 13 weeks....so do yourself a big favour here and get in touch with your local college/s....see what they have to offer...and dont just ask reception...speak to the lecturers themselves..and they will be able to explain a lot more about how it works and just what`s involved.........

as you probably know the 2330 and the 2356 are both being replaced with the 2357.....as the new 2357 incorperates the 2356 NVQ...you will need to be working in the trade to attain the new 2357....

i checked with the local college, its gona take me more then 3 years to finish the course, and probably same amount of money, and its one day course. i dont see a point of doing that course.

Abz dont fall into the trap of tick box qualification ie do it parrot fashion to pass then find you dont know how to apply it you need to learn and understand how it all connects if not then you will get caught out

Think you'll find that the point is, you'll learn a whole lot more than you can ever learn in 13 weeks. It's allright for some salesman to tell you they can teach you all you need to know in 13 weeks, they want your money.

ok i understand what you saying, but whos going to a risk on a guy that don't have experence or qualifications, i dont know anyone thats electrican or anyone thats gona help, so the only option i got is get the qualifications, after that i got more chances, of getting a work experince. thank you sir

Abz: I'm sorry to tell you but I doubt that your having done a 13 week crash course is going to open up new job opportunities for you. You would be competing for jobs against fully qualified & experienced sparks & these Fast track courses have 1 hell of a bad reputation in the Electrical industry.

Abz: It's not my place to tell you what to do, i'm just trying to show you that you need to have a serious think about this before you dive in. Try ringing the Electrical contractors in your area & ask them what sort of chance you would have of them hiring you once you've done the course, then maybe you can decide what you want to do. Don't forget that these courses don't turn you into a fully qualified Electrician, once you finish the course is when you really start to learn.
