Hi all, totally newbie to this, is installed a porch light outside and it was already wired to behid a switch, after taking the switch off the wall, there are free holes named L1,2 and 4. To make this more complicated there are 2 wires brown and blue, and three wires all blue grouped together which are free. And all earths are grounded. So which group of wires do I connect into my 3 available holes to get my light to work???

You have a 2 way switch arrangement here. In your position I would get a qualified electrician in mate. To sort this out will not take long, will not cost much and will give peace of mind.
Post up your location I'll bet we have a helpful member near you.

i would assume from your description that the 3 blues you call "free" are neutrals. however, assumption can be fatal and i suggest you post your location to see if there is a qualified spark on the forum , close to you. no use having an epitaph "well, it was only a switch"

Ihavenoclue, (assuming you're not a heating installer) I applaud your willingness to have a go but would you be so willing to repipe the gas supply to your central heating boiler?

From what you describe there, the connection will involve the linking of a permanent live from one of the existing switch terminals to the porch light switch.

Unless you have the prior knowledge of what to look for, you can only pinpoint the correct core by using test equipment.

In this instance I would recommend enlisting a qualified spark to help you.
