i rang my labc.

was about to start on a rewire that i could use for joining elecsa but i thought better notify labc that i am about to start work ( i thought i had to?).
the guy on the phone says that no one has notified the council for about 5 years as all electricians are already part p registered.i said what about new electricians dont they have to notify you before they join and do work?
he said i don't know how they are doing it but i would just join elecsa it's about £319.00 for us to check your work? i thanked him and put the phone down.
so my question is as i class myself a competant person have 17th,2391 and some of 2360-1,-2 can i certify works until my elecsa visit or even joining elecsa if i say ime about to ?( by the way i AM about to ).
it just seems strange that anyone can do domestic work even if they have no chance of joining a scheme and any danger could be caused before a site visit.
am i getting it right?

Sorry, just woke up, the benefits of being unemployed and unable to afford the LABC rates for adding a few lamps to a bathroom circuit...

The way it was explained to me: you have 28 days between doing the work and notyfing LABC. So you need to get the assessment date, then do the work a couple of weeks before it. If everything goes well with ELECSA you can notify within the 28 days and jobs done!

Good luck!

As you have a month to do the paperwork, can you not finish the job, get inspected and signed up by Elesca. Then send in the paperwork for this job?

Officially, as LBC have given you the go-ahead, you must do the work, pass the elecsa assessment and notify within 28 days. Unofficially, who is to know when you completed the job?
Your assessment will take 4 - 6 weeks from application so better to get the ball rolling. If you think you will be ready sooner then ask to go on the cancellation list (it knocked 2 weeks off my date).
Get the job done, all tested and signed off (don't forget all 3 labels on CU). Memorise the BGB, OSG and Guide to building regs.
You will be asked loads of questions such as max zs for circuit with 32A type B mcb etc, building regs requirements such as max size of hole in joists, types of earthing, etc etc. You will have to show all your paperwork is in order and you will be asked to demonstrate some testing such as Ze, Zs and such like.
Get it all right and you get an "A" :)

When I done my assessment I done the same, thought I'd better do it all by the book, rang building control to chat to them about it and they didn't have a clue, got pushed around the office and then finally got an answer of if it's for you assessment then you can do it, get your pass and then notify.

ok so it now makes sence ish
thanks,
As doing the job on my own and hold ups with family etc 4 to six weeks is fine.
it will also give me some time to pester you guys constantly on the stuff i should know but don't :D

Mate, feel free to ask any question. It's easy to say "just learn the regs", but when I was asked under pressure what the 3 types of earthing arrangement were, my mind went blank for a few seconds. Elecsa are great though, and try their best to put you at ease.
