i rang my labc.

T

thekingiam

was about to start on a rewire that i could use for joining elecsa but i thought better notify labc that i am about to start work ( i thought i had to?).
the guy on the phone says that no one has notified the council for about 5 years as all electricians are already part p registered.i said what about new electricians dont they have to notify you before they join and do work?
he said i don't know how they are doing it but i would just join elecsa it's about £319.00 for us to check your work? i thanked him and put the phone down.
so my question is as i class myself a competant person have 17th,2391 and some of 2360-1,-2 can i certify works until my elecsa visit or even joining elecsa if i say ime about to ?( by the way i AM about to ).
it just seems strange that anyone can do domestic work even if they have no chance of joining a scheme and any danger could be caused before a site visit.
am i getting it right?

You dont need to memorise the books, but you do need to be able to find your way round them. If he asks you a question, and you dont know the answer he wont want a guess, he will want you to look it up in either the BGB or OSG. Dont try to baffle him with bull****, they are all electricians, and bloody good ones as well. If you dont know, then tell him so. You will be Ok anyway.

Cheers........Howard

Don't laugh but can't figure out what you mean by Bgb? got all the others!
Can you enlighten me please?

got to laugh ( sorry! ) i have problems sometimes on this forum with all the abreviations every one is using.
i did know bgb though, other abreviations i usually wait till its explained more rather than showing. maybe we could have a definitions sticky for those of us that can't figure it out and don't want the world to know?

My number one piece of advice if you are doing a CU change is to make it look the dogs danglies. If the wiring is immaculate, any assessor will know that your standard of work is very high.

I agree.

My old boss always said: "If it looks right, then it probably is right". That was when I was serving my apprenticeship as a Precision Engineer, but it holds good for all the other trades etc. as well.

My Father (another engineer of the "Old School") used to say: "If you can't make the job look tidy, don't bother trying it.

Both of those sayings stuck with me right through my working life.
