Discuss ice bucket challenge in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

It helps because when you get nominated you then do the challenge, make a donation and nominate other people to do it (in turn causing other people to 'have to' make a donation and nominate others, causing a snowball effect of donations). Can be to any charity not only macmillans

I have not seen any mention of charity in any of the videos I have seen though.
Your right it has snowballed but i think its lost its purpose and become a viral thing to do.

Like planking or something....

People usually post it on social media writing 'I have donated to XYZ charity and now nominate Joe Bloggs' but don't actually speak of it in the video. I know of one 'celebrity' who donated $100,000US when he did his. That one donation alone goes A LONG WAY towards helping out someone sick/in need

I thought it was for Cancer, But proves my point nobody actually knows why they are doing it LOL

Dont get me wrong, I believe in charities and I have given small amounts on a regular basis to various charities but some things are just pointless.

I heard it was for the Motor Neurone Association GB and the American version called ALS.

"So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. Matthew 6:2

Think about it, what sticks i your mind more, a soppy advert on tv about some poor sod who has to walk 200 miles a day for a cup of water or pouring a bucket of ice water over your head or in fact watchig others do it? Carry on I say it hasn't harmed anyone (yet) and it's for a good cause crack on!!

Wrong.

I happen to know of one celebrity (who I know well and have worked with) intends to do the ice bucket challenge live on stage at a festival this weekend in response to donations from the crowd (and himself). I can't see any negative in that at all - its fun, it's fundraising and it's wholesome. Having just lost another old friend to cancer last night, bring it on is what I say.
