Father in law got a shed with a 2way cu usual set up 40a 30ma rcd 16a & 6a mcbs for skt and lights. Had a problem recently with rcd tripping occasionaly ever since they had a old freezer gave them so obvious what's causing the rcd to trip nothing else plugged in but freezer but tested everthing and all ok. Told him to get rid of freezer but as it not tripping rcd every day he wants to keep.it but has asked me if there is a way of fitting some sort of alarm to tell him power is off in shed. Any ideas.

Both great ideas guys and already thought of both.
Murdoch first thing I thought of changing set up like you said. Freezer is on its way out and obviously the problem needs chucking.
But what I'm asking is is there anything on market to tell him power is off in shed.
Simples.

I'm sure I've seen something along these lines advertised in the past - but can't think of a make or model! Sorry

EDIT: Some baby monitors can tell if the power has been disconnected at the "baby" end - how far away is the shed?

You're missing the point. Appliances don't trip RCDs because they are old, they trip them because they are electrically faulty. Why would a spark recommend a way for someone to keep a faulty appliance in operation? How do you know it's not dangerous?

Yeh murdoch me to.
He's a awarkard old bugger and told him just to bin freezer. Though fitting a non maintained ip rated em light above shed door that way he knows if its on power is off to shed.

Lucian I appeciate you concerns I really do but freezer is about 20 yrs old and needs scrapping and I wouldn't have it in my house but its up to him what he plugs in in his shed. He's simply asked me to find out if there is something that can be fitted to make him aware power is off in shed. Suppose I could report him to police for endangering life by plugging in that dam faulty freezer in his own shed ;)
