It's my first post so if it's in the wrong forum sorry about that. I was just looking for some advise in regards to what you think would be the best option to take for some one in my situation. As I am a 2nd year student looking to move into his 3rd year next yr where I will also complete a nvq alongside it so that I can obtain the goldcard. My question is would I be wise to stay where I am currently working which is in a hospital as at the end of may they have said I can move over to the estates department where I can help with any instalations that they carry out around the place. (there should be a variety as there always alot going onK) or would I be better of trying to find someone to work with who does domestic instilations or likewise should I focus on findng a company that deals with just commercial instilations. Thanks for popping in, and shareing any advise with
me. Just

Re: I'm a 2nd year c&g 2300 looking for avise

Imho you would be better transferring to estates as it may be more stable and longer job at the moment till some bugger sorts out the economy

Re: I'm a 2nd year c&g 2300 looking for avise

stay where you are m8. the installation sector is poor for labour at the moment. you will need to try and do what you need to do for your nvq, i.e. the range of installation jobs for your evidence portfolio. have a word with your assessor and your boss to make sure that you are involved in as much install work as possible, and good luck......

Re: I'm a 2nd year c&g 2300 looking for avise

If i was you i'd move over to the estates department, you will struggle with your NVQ portfolio unless you cover a reasonably wide range of installs. However I wouldn't be looking to find a new company with the state the economy is in at the minute because if the **** hits the fan, last one in is the first one out.

if you move over doing installs only you will find youl struggle for your unit 302 on your nvq (fualt finding basically) ive just finished my nvq and its a royal pain with the lack of work on

you only need 2 wiring systems to install on your nvq so if say you do armoured 1 day and conuit the next youve pretty much covered it also testing and inspection

cheers mate :)

so jonesy83 do you rekon go with the estates offer at the hospital.

Hi mate,

I think you need to go with whichever will give you the most variety of electrical work.

I know the lecturers at our college have said that you need to be doing a bit of everything to do the NVQ - i.e. domestic, commercial and industrial:)
