hi just replaced an immersion heater for the second time in four weeks, the previous one only lasted a year and a half. i know the one four weeks ago could have been a faulty one but any ideas as to why they keep going. never really had much to do with them. thanks in advance for the replies. hope this one lasts a bit longer i was sweating like an ice cube in the sun in the bloody airing cupboard. btw no clothes on top of the tank

The 4 week failure was probably a faulty heater, if the other only lasted a year I assume you fitted a copper element which have a 1 year guarantee, but are not recommended for hard water area's. I would consider fitting an Aqualoy [3 Year] or Titanium 5 Year element.

i read an article a few months ago about how some heater elements have obsolesence designed into them so they don't last too long  maybe you/they were just unlucky with the types fitted!

i did for mine but she already had it bought when i went round. didn`t mind replacing it but could have done without it in this weather, little cupboards and 30+ degrees don`t make me happy :) hopefully this one will last a bit longer

I fitted a Tesla Immersion heater last year and it lasted just 13 months, and OK it was a copper one. I have now fitted a Incolloy one, how long is that gonna last.. 14 months? The old one had split along its length, and actually showed very little calcification, the problem seemed to me to be the fact that the copper sheathing was about the same thickness as a kit kat wrapper! Does anybody know of a decent manufacturer? I would happily pay twice the price of the Tesla sh*te, the labour costs would still be way more than the heater itself, how much would an extra three millimetres of copper cost them anyway (rant, rant.... sorry!) :-(

I can buy the copper elements with a 1 year guarantee, incoloy with a 2 year and titanium with a 5 year guarantee, if your in a hard water area, its worth fitting either incoloy or titanium
