Hi,

Basically as it says on the tin above. I put the immersion heater on tonight and after about an hour the water's nice and hot but the spur is hot to the touch on the faceplate and the little screw holding the fuse socket in place. I realise a lot of power is used to heat the water but is this normal? If not, what might cause it?

Thanks

needs to be a 20a dp switch.
you pull about 16-17amps.so 13a fuse not sufficient,it will end up melting.
hope this helps

?? 3kW most immersions.

I make that a 175V supply.

Also I know for example a type B MCB will run at 1.13 its rating all day every day & a similar (probably higher factor) can be applied to a BS 1363 fuse. If you have one in line it won't pop!

16/17 statement was a ball park figure.sorry to upset you lot.
Been to quite a lot of jobs I have been to lately with fused spur outlets burnt out.with one causing a fire.
So I just thought my past experience would help.
Thanks

Hi, I couldn't upload or link to images, as I've not yet posted more than 5 posts.

The fuse is 13A.
The immersion heater is 3kW.
I believe it is an MK switch.
I pulled each cable and none seemed loose.

Thanks for the replies.
