Hi,

Basically as it says on the tin above. I put the immersion heater on tonight and after about an hour the water's nice and hot but the spur is hot to the touch on the faceplate and the little screw holding the fuse socket in place. I realise a lot of power is used to heat the water but is this normal? If not, what might cause it?

Thanks

As someone has said, ÂŁ50 it's a loose connection.

Take it off and make sure the terminal screws are nice and tight. 99% sure it will be problem solved...

Switch off the power to the immersion heater at the consumer unit, test with a decent tester (not a neon screwdriver) that there are no live cables at the switch or at the immersion heater; one by one, so that you do not get them mixed, undo the terminal screw and remove each cable from its termination, make sure the cable end is not contaminated and then replace each one ensuring you are not trapping any insulation under the screw and also not leaving any cable exposed copper (either strands of cable or a section of the cable) visible outside the terminal and re tighten the terminal screw so that the cable is firmly held in place.
Do this at both the switch and the immersion, this should resolve the problem.

IF you are unsure what you are doing or you do not feel confident in doing this then do not undertake it as it could be fatal.
Call an electrician to check the circuit instead, they will be able to test and check and re terminate faster and better, they could also replace the cable if it has been heat damaged.

apoligies for my post callendeeree it was rude if you use good quality accessories it helps, some of the chep stuff,s no good under high load(gets hot) make sure the flex is heat resistant too as it will melt inside the immersion cover otherwise
16/17 statement was a ball park figure.sorry to upset you lot.
Been to quite a lot of jobs I have been to lately with fused spur outlets burnt out.with one causing a fire.
So I just thought my past experience would help.
Thanks
