immersion Heater

Hi all,

Just need to clear something up in my own mind - went to a job today where there is a hot water tank and immersion heater. The tank will not heat up so am suspecting the element, but just want to make sure it's not the stat. There is 230v across the L-N when with the stat in place, but still no heat. I am asuming that if the stat was faulty that there would be 0v between L-N (happy to be proved wrong).
Any sugestions?

Check the Voltage Accreoss the Terminals of the Heating ellement if theres 230 Vots the the heating ellement is Dead.

If you stick an ohmmeter across the element you should get around 20 ohms if it's ok, if its an open circuit or a lot higher then the element has gone.

check if 230 across l & n on element and also try putting a clamp meter on it to see if its drawing any current

And if you dont own a clamp meter and its a rotating disc suppliers meter
Watch that turky zooming along like no tomorow as you switch the immersion on

just turn the stat up and test the load side, 99% of the time it is the stat and not the element (in my eperience anyway)
