Hi I'd appreciate some help with a Pir that I've been asked to do on 6 flats converted in September 2008. I have been in one to sort out a tripping problem on the ring main. After much frustration it turned out to be the immersion heater that was faulty and was tripping its rcd. Here lies my problem. The immersion is the only source of hot water heating, it has been put on the ring main and this contrary to both Building and Wiring Regs when it was converted. How it got through a visit from the LABC is another matter. They possibly passed it because the the central heating is on its own circuit (also electric) and they didnt look any further.Advice on what code to put it on would be appreciated can a 1 be justified or is a 2 better.Either way I think the owner is going to go ape with the electrician who installed them all.

Just a note. The immersion heater can be on the ring main, providing the vessel is less than 150 Litres.

Think you`ll find thats 15 litres. Anything more requires it`s own circuit.

As stated, Code 2 rather than 1.

Still warrants an unsatisfactory

and let the spark who did it take the heat (no pun intended) & not you
